The End of Life Option Act will establish criteria for a patient who has been diagnosed as terminally ill that must be met prior to being prescribed the medication. SB 128 is modeled on legislation in Oregon and other states where aid-in-dying has been proven to be effective and successful.

Four months after her death, Brittany Maynard urged state lawmakers in a video released Wednesday morning to approve a bill that would allow physicians in California to prescribe lethal doses of drugs to terminally ill patients to hasten their demise

Brittany Maynard legislative testimony

Brittany wrote this testimony and recorded this video just weeks before her death. Her goal was to give control to terminally ill people as they approach the end of life, an option she was denied in her home state of California.
